Frequently Asked Questions
- California Medical Cannabis I.D. *
- A copy of the letter from your recommending Medical Doctor *
* Before we may supply you with medical cannabis, we must do an online check to verify your California Medical Cannabis I.D. card and your Doctor's ability to practice medicine within the State of California. Your Doctor's office will also be called to verify that you have a legitimate recommendation letter provided to you by the Medical Doctor.
Q: Can I purchase cannabis for another person?
A: Only those who have a valid California Care Givers I.D. card and
has passed identification checks as outlined above will be allowed
to purchase cannabis for those with a valid Medical Cannabis
Identification Card who cannot come to the collective and procure
cannabis for themselves. Collective Members are advised that
is illegal to resell medical cannabis or provide it to someone who
does not have a valid California Medical Cannabis Indemnification
Card and a recommendation letter from the Medical Doctor.
Q:
Can my alternative medicine Doctor recommend the use of Medical
Cannabis for the relief of my pain or symptoms?
A: Only a Medical Doctor authorized to practice medicine in the
State of California can provide you with a written recommendation
need to obtain a California I.D. for the use of medical cannabis.
Though your Chiropractor, Acupuncturist or other heath care provider is licensed by the State of California, they are not able to provide you with a recommendation that will be recognized by the State of California.
Under current law at the time this was written Medical Doctors can not prescribe medical cannabis, they can only recommend its use to you when other forms of treatment prove to be unsatisfactory in relieving your symptoms.
Q:Can you refer
me to a Doctor who can recommend medical cannabis?
A: We are prohibited by law from making these recommendations.
While any doctor can sign a recommendation, most doctors will not do
so for fear of prosecution. Therefore, there are doctors whose sole
medical practice is to issue these recommendations. You can find
lists of such doctors at CANORML and more information on the subject
at the Americans For Safe Access website.
Q: How do I get a California Medical Cannabis Patient (CMCP) ID?
A: The California Medical Cannabis Patient ID Center issues a
medical ID card. The advantage of the card, other than being
laminated, is that it is recognized in most dispensaries in the Bay
Area as a way to gain access without further verification. The CMCP
is located at 1733 Broadway in Oakland CA.
Q: Can I use the
California State I.D. Card at MediLeaf?
A: Yes. We also recognize the State ID card, which is also issued by
the CMCP (see question above). The State ID is sponsored by the
state of California, costs twice as much as the CMCP ID, and takes
longer to obtain. Please note that the California Attorney General
has also disclosed its willingness to share patient information
collected by the State ID card program with the Federal government.
The CMCP card, by contrast, is cheaper and your information will not
be shared by anyone without a subpoena or your express permission.
Both cards are issued at the same place - the CMCP.
